Butterfly Crunches

To perform butterfly crunches, begin by lying on the mat with your legs crossed. Crunch your abs by raising your shoulders off of the mat.

Raise your shoulders as high as possible off of the floor and pause at the top, squeezing your core if you wish to really feel the effort in your upper abs. Then, slowly return to the starting position.This exercise requires a certain amount of flexibility in the legs. If you find it too difficult to cross your legs as you perform these crunches, try keeping your legs on the floor but at an open angle, with your knees pointing outwards and your heels touching each other. Move your feet closer in to the rest of your body to make the exercise more difficult. This will put you in a similar position as demonstrated in the photos, without requiring as much flexibility.
