Dumbbell Curls

Dumbbell curls are performed by beginning with a dumbbell in each hand and your arms at your sides, with your palms facing the sides of your body. Slowly curl one weight up while rotating your hand until your palm is facing your bicep and your muscle is in a fully contracted position.

Repeat the process with your other arm as you slowly lower the raised dumbbell back to the starting position.

Tips

* Rotating your hands while bringing the weight up takes the biceps through its entire range of motion, including flexion, protraction, and supination.
* Always lower and raise the weights in a controlled motion, you do not want to be throwing or jerking the weights up.
* Avoid arching your back excessively in order to assist your lifts. To make the exercise harder, try standing with your back flat against a wall as you curl the dumbbells up.
* This exercise can also be performed in a seated position.
