Front Dumbbell Raises

To execute front dumbbell raises, start by grabbing a single dumbbell and holding it with both hands. With your back straight, raise your arms in front of you to lift the dumbbell up.

Raise the dumbbell until it is about level with the top of your head, then return to the starting point under control.

Tips

* This exercise develops the anterior deltoid as well as the clavicular head of the pectoralis major.
* This movement is similar to the variation in which a dumbbell is held in each hand. The advantage to using a single dumbbell in this exercise, however, is that it forces both arms to travel through the same plane. When using two dumbbells, it can be easy to shift one's balance in order to make the lifts easier.
