Jackknives

Jackknives are a fun and super-effective exercise for targeting the obliques. Start by lying on the ground with one hand behind your head and the other one on the ground for balance. Keep your bottom leg bent and your top leg straight. Then, crunch upward so that your elbow and leg come together at the top. Try and keep your leg as straight as possible throughout the range of motion.

After your elbow and leg meet, return to the starting position slowly. Remember to keep your body sideways during this exercise with your head facing straight out in front of you rather than facing upwards towards the ceiling. In other words, avoid rotating your body as you crunch upwards. This will keep the effort on your obliques and off of your upper abs.Difficulty Rating: 2
