Staying Motivated
Staying motivated with their diets and workouts is one of the biggest challenges that most people face. How do I stay focused and committed to a program?- this is a question I am asked a lot. Based on personal preferences, different people may find certain aspects of health and fitness more appealing than others. For example some people, guys in particular, may love hitting the weights but dread doing cardio or eating nutritious foods, while the reverse may be true for others. Like anything else in life, your approach to physical fitness must be balanced and properly planned to ensure your long-term success. Consistent, gradual efforts are key when it comes to maintaining a healthy diet and workout regimen, and the first step to accomplishing this is within your mind. Changing your Mindset The idea of working out can conjure up various emotions in different people. For some, such a suggestion may inspire feelings of excitement at the opportunity to overcome a challenge and experience both physical and mental growth, while for others, the suggestion may be met with disinterest and general apathy. To really succeed in a workout program, you have to find a way to make the entire process enjoyable. If you hate working out or eating vegetables and whole grains and other nutritious foods and you are constantly repeating these thoughts in your mind, your workouts will only seem harder and you will become frustrated and give up. To change this, you have to find a way to make yourself enjoy working out and eating healthy foods. Think about why you visited this site and first became interested in working out. For most people, the reasons are somewhere along the lines of decreasing their body fat, increasing their lean muscle mass, and improving their self-image and confidence. Now think about how you will feel when you have accomplished your goals. Picture the type of body you want, mentally imagine yourself looking in the mirror, walking on the beach, and imagine others noticing your improvements and complimenting you. Run these thoughts through your mind everyday andmake them as real as possible. It is after you do this consistently enough that your end goal will become so clear and vivid in your mind that you will actually start to enjoy working out and eating right since you have associated these activities with the positive feeling of reaching your goals. For some, this may seem difficult to believe right now, but if you truly have an intense desire to improve yourself and you follow these steps, you can recondition your mind and emotions to the point that you start to look forward to your workouts instead of dreading them. Staying Motivated with your Diet If you are just beginning to implement healthy eating strategies into your life for the first time, it will be very difficult to follow the
nutrition plan strategies outlined here
and immediately begin consuming 5-6 clean meals per day. The act of eating this many meals alone can present a challenge to some people. The first step to take is to begin eating smaller portions more frequently. Plan your day from the beginning, including which foods you are going to eat and at which times. It is best to make a list of your daily nutritional requirements in order to develop a strategy for eating all of your meals throughout the day. You would not blindly approach a workout with no plan in mind of the exercises you intend to perform and the body parts you wish to train. Similarly, you should not begin your day with no idea of which foods you must eat and at which times.Once you are comfortable eating smaller meals throughout the day, you must begin to watch what types of food you are eating. Again, it will be difficult to immediately begin eating healthy foods at every meal when you are not used to this. The key is to begin your program in moderation. Try eating at least one piece of fruit and one vegetable per day and then gradually increase this amount until you are meeting the daily recommendations of fruits and vegetables on a regular basis. You will find that making small, gradual changes is essential in staying motivated to reach your nutritional goals. In fact, if you begin to eat healthy foods for awhile, perhaps a week or two, you will likely notice yourself actually starting to crave these foods. As your body gets used to receiving quality nutrients at every meal, fast-food and other unhealthy choices begin to seem completely unappetizing. Your body simply will not be able to function at the same rate you have become accustomed to if you choose unhealthy alternatives, and this will be reflected in your physical and mental functioning. Of course, you cannot eat completely healthy 24/7. That is alright though, cheat meals are an important part of a sound diet too. It is nice to schedule a day where you do not have to worry about taking in all of your nutrients and you can allow yourself to eat that candy bar you have been craving. Days like this will allow you to relax and re-energize your mind. Follow this link for a
