Underhand Lat Pulldowns

For underhand lat pulldowns, sit in front of the machine with your legs fixed under the support pads if they are provided. Grab the bar with an underhand grip a little wider than shoulder width. Arch your lower back and push your chest out as you pull down on the bar.

Lower the bar towards your chest and squeeze your back at the end of the movement, then return to the starting position under control.

Tips

* This exercise focuses the effort on the latissimus dorsi, lower section of the trapezius, rhomboids, as well as the biceps.
* It should be noted that an underhand grip will put the biceps in their strongest position, and thus, decrease the involvement of the back somewhat. Its okay to throw this exercise into your training mix for some variety once in a while, but keep in mind that if you really want to work your back, you should try more difficult exercises like standard lat pulldowns or back lat pulldowns.
